Orica’s Kooragang Island site has turned 50 this month and to help them celebrate Jennings Print have scanned, printed and folded a special 50th anniversary newspaper. The newspaper replicates the 11th March, 1969 edition of the Newcastle Morning Herald and Miners’ Advocate, promoting Kooragang Island and its Eastern Nitrogen Ltd. plant. In February 1969, the plant began producing fertiliser-grade ammonium nitrate for use in the agricultural industry, with Orica taking over ownership of the site in 2003.
“One of our former employees kept an original, six-page Newcastle Herald feature that was printed when the Orica Kooragang Island site first became operational in 1969. With permission from the Newcastle Herald, we asked Jennings Print to reproduce the feature so we could provide it to past and present employees attending our 50th anniversary celebrations. The newspaper was a hit and everyone found the old articles and advertisements to be a fascinating walk down memory lane.” – Nicole Masson (Senior Communications Advisor, Orica)
